Baby Hinson

Baby Hinson Has Arrived!

Connor Hinson is here! He arrived March 4th, coincidentally also National Marching Band Day. The Hinson family are all happy to be home and doing well. The Hinson family passes along their thanks for all of the kind wishes from Mason Band families over the past few months! 

Congratulations to Mr. Hinson and family!

Concerto Winners

Congrats to Our Concerto Competition Performers

Congratulations to all of our students who performed in the Concerto Competition this past week! The performances by Henry, Kieran, Liheng, and Nini were fantastic! This year’s winner, Nini, will perform on the April 29th Wind Symphony Concert with the band. This year’s runner up, Henry, will perform in the concert as well with his pianist accompanying him. 

WS NCBF Trip

Wind Symphony NCBF Trip

MHS Wind Symphony travels to Indianapolis this Thursday-Sunday for the Music for All National Concert Band Festival. 

Performances

Mason Wind Symphony performs on Thursday, March 13, at 7:00 pm at Clowes Hall at Butler University.

Performances throughout the event, including Mason’s, will be livestreamed free courtesy of BOX5 Media.

Travel Meeting

There will be a Travel Meeting for Wind Symphony students and parents this Wednesday from 5-6pm in the Small Commons. Please plan to attend.

Medication Drop-Off

Our Medical Secretary, Sally McDonald, will be at the Travel Meeting on Wednesday 4:30-6:30 to take in any medications students may need on the trip. 

We will be following the same procedures and protocols as we do for marching band. Please refer to the Forms and Medication Management pages on our website for Dispensing Medication at School (DMS) forms, instructions on completing forms, and information on how to turn in medication.

Important reminders:

  • All DMS forms (whether prescription or over the counter) must be signed by a physician and parent.
  • All medication must be turned in in the original container, with dosage instructions.
    • Prescriptions must have the student’s name on the container.

Thanks to everyone who came out this past Tuesday for the Taste of Mason. We hope you had a wonderful time eating some yummy food, enjoying fantastic performances, and connecting with others in our community. 

Our Jazz Band 1 and Winter Drumline dazzled audiences with some wonderful performances at the event!

Our next two General Band Booster Meetings will be:

  • Wednesday, March 19 at 7pm in the Band Room
  • Wednesday, April 23 at 7pm in the Band Room
    • Booster Executive Committee Elections will be held at this meeting

2025 Drum Major Interest Form

The 2024 Drum Majors and directors are beginning the process of organizing clinics and auditions to train and select the 2025 Drum Majors for the marching band! If you are interested in getting communications about clinics, help sessions, and the audition process from the current drum majors, please fill out this form below. Filling out the form does NOT mean you have to audition, it just makes sure you will get all the info from them.

  • PAST DUE: Marching Band School Fee #1, $400 via PaySchools Central or check to Mason City Schools
  • March 19th: Marching Band Booster Meeting 7pm in the MHS Band Room
  • Due APRIL 1: MCS MB SCHOOL FEE 2 $400 | via PaySchools Central or check to Mason City Schools

Other Marching Band Documents: 

IMPORTANT: For all payments by check - please include the student’s name and student ID and the fee you are paying on the memo line of the check. Example: “Jane Doe 987654 Band Fee 1”

School fees are available in PaySchools Central. You will find the fees under Performing Arts. Scroll to the bottom of that section and look for the ones that start with "NEXT SEASON". All three school fees are live and payable, with the due date for each listed in the name.

CWG

Competitive Winter Guard (CWG)

  • WGI MidEast Power Regional: Itinerary
    • We have two options for Sunday: Plan A (staying for awards) and Plan B (leaving after the performance). However, we won’t make a final decision on either plan until after our performance and score results on Saturday. If we're in the running for a top 3 finish, the team has decided we’ll stay. Stay tuned for the outcome!
  • Snack Donations: We will be providing snacks on competition days.  If you would like to donate snacks, please sign up here!
