CONSTRUCTION TO IMPACT BAND CAMP FROM JULY 25TH TO AUGUST 8TH

Please be aware that some of you may need to allow extra time to travel to band camp the next couple of weeks. Work is being done to improve the railroad crossing found at the intersection of Tylersville Road and US RT 42. No through traffic will be permitted across the railroad.  During the railroad crossing replacements, a detour will be available utilizing Snider Road, Western Row Road, and Mason Montgomery Road.

ULTIMATE DRILL BOOK - Optional

Students might remember using the "Ultimate Drill Book" or UDB app last year. The band program received a grant last year for all students to try this tool. Although we do not have funding this year to purchase this subscription for students again, we are now able to allow students and families who liked having this tool to purchase individually for the season. This is not required, and is totally optional only for families/students that would like to continue using this during the season. The cost is $10 plus tax, that covers the entire season. We will continue to share video files at no cost, for students that would prefer that option.

To Purchase UDB for your student:

  1. Go to this link: CLICK HERE
  2. Add the subscription to your cart
  3. Pay the fee ($10.30)
  4. Download the "UDB" app from the App Store on your phone or Ipad (see UDB website for compatible devices)
  5. Once per week, Mr. Hinson will receive an email from UDB with students that have purchased. Students will then receive an email to their school email with the ensemble code that allows them to join the Mason UDB group.

If you'd like to learn more about UDB before purchasing, see this video from the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps about UDB: CLICK HERE

GREAT START TO BAND CAMP!

First Week Video Montage

Band Camp is off to a wonderful start!  The students have already accomplished so much in just one week.  If this first week is any indication, we have a fantastic season ahead of us!  It was also wonderful to see all of the smiles and everyone having a great time during the All Band Social on Thursday.

This upcoming week we have a few more fun activities planned with History Night on Thursday and Skit Night on Friday.  Every day this week, the band will dress up for a specific theme.  For each day’s theme, please see the schedule below. The week will end with Tag Day, our largest student fundraiser of the year, on Saturday. Please see below for details.

Please remember to bring a packed lunch to camp and be prepared for another potentially hot week ahead.  Be sure to bring your jug of water and continue to hydrate before and after band each day.   Since students will be outside for extended periods of time, they will need sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and athletic shoes.

Please be sure to review our BAND CAMP GUIDEBOOK 2022 that has tons of detailed information for everything you need to know about camp.

ARRIVAL AND DROP OFF

We will use our typical drop off procedure in which students who drive should park in the Music Lot, and students who are being dropped off should be dropped off in the Bus Circle. Students should then check in with their Section Leader. Please remember the Music Lot traffic travels in one direction (see below).  During pick-up, please park in a spot if you can, or pull all the way up past the music entrance so other parents can pick up their student as well.   Please be aware of all the students in the lot at dismissal time. For this reason, we ask that you drive slowly and cautiously.

LEADERSHIP CAMP

Our Marching Band student leaders had a fantastic time this past Monday at Miami University!  The day was filled with fun and challenging team building activities designed to develop leadership skills.  Through the activities, they learned the importance of clear and concise communication, listening to others, teamwork, supporting each other even when things get a bit difficult, and so much more.  We are very proud of the way the students tackled each challenge presented to them.  This year’s leaders are an impressive bunch.  It is heartwarming to see their ability to work together towards a common goal and lift each other up.  Way to go leaders!

SNACK HELPERS NEEDED FOR BAND CAMP

Are you looking for an easy way to help during band camp with a small time commitment?  We are in need of two parents each day to distribute snacks to the students in the afternoon. The shift begins at 3:15 pm and only takes approximately an hour.  Thanks in advance for your help!

BAND AIDS AND CHAPERONES NEEDED FOR BAND CAMP

Thank you to our amazing team of Band Aids and Chaperones dedicated to care for our students! If you have been approved to serve our band in this capacity, we could use your help during band camp.  To be qualified as a chaperone, you need to have attended chaperone/band aid training and have a completed background check.  Band Aids must also have completed their safe schools training and be CPR certified.

We encourage you to jump right in!  Volunteer slots for Band Camp are now live. Links can be found below. During Band Camp, one of our seasoned volunteers will be on campus to help.   In your first shifts, sign up for the second slot, so an experienced Band Aid or Chaperone can sign up with you.

If you have any questions please contact Rachel Gasparraj at chaperones@masonbandboosters.com  or Melissa Woodward at vp-studentexperience@masonbandboosters.com

UPCOMING BOOSTER MEETING

Parents, please mark your calendars for our upcoming Booster Meeting/Dessert Potluck on Thursday August 4th at 7pm at the High School. The directors will be giving an update on the latest information regarding the season.  There will also be Travel and Uniform updates plus so much more. The time was pushed later with the hopes more parents could attend. It will also be a wonderful opportunity to begin getting to know other band parents. We will be having a dessert pot luck immediately following the meeting. We ask that each family bring a dessert to share (8-12 servings). We look forward to seeing all of you there!

2022-23 SPONSORS NEEDED

Do you own your own business or know someone who does? We are currently seeking companies to Sponsor our Mason Bands Programs grades 6-12.  There are many benefits to becoming a sponsor of our Program:

Local Exposure for your business:  With over 1200 students served in one of the largest school districts in Ohio, your promotion is seen by thousands of students and parents

International Exposure for your business:  We have traveled to many high-profile locations, including the 2016 Rose Bowl Parade, Carnegie Hall in NYC, and the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada just to name a few...

Mason Bands has a Tradition of Excellence:  Mason Marching Band is an 8-time Bands of America Grand National Finalist AND we are one of the few programs in the world to receive multiple John Philip Sousa Foundation awards:  The Sudler Flag of Honor for excellence in concert band performance and the Sudler Shield of Honor for excellence in marching band performance.

You are supporting music education:  Music programs provide a creative outlet for students with many benefits to their social, emotional and intellectual well-being.

We need you!:  As you can imagine, there are significant costs associated with managing such a large organization. School budgets continue to decrease which transfers additional expenses directly to the families. The music program is a year-round program costing several thousands of dollars and includes fees for participation, travel, private lessons, along with uniform and instrument rentals.

We love and support our sponsors!:  We partner with you to help promote your business and show our appreciation by wearing your logo on our shirts and displaying on our semi-trailer (gold-level and above), featuring you on social media and giving you our business.

Please see our website at https://www.masonbands.com/sponsorship/ for information on the levels of sponsorship and for the form to confirm your sponsorship today!

We appreciate your support!
