TAG DAY- IT’S NOT TOO LATE!

Do you know someone who would still like to make a donation for Tag Day? It is not too late to donate! Our friends and family campaign runs through the month of August.  Here is a sample letter students can use to reach out to family members. Donations can be made HERE

Our final fundraising numbers by team can be viewed here.  The top 3 teams will receive prizes Monday evening and the top fundraising team will be treated to breakfast cooked by Mr. Protzman!  We also had two individuals who raised over $500 in the Friends and Family campaign this week.   They will receive a Speedy Freeze gift card.  Finally, all participants will be receiving a laptop sticker with this year’s show theme since we achieved our goal (these will be shared later this month)!

Invitational Tickets (for band families and friends and family who named students in their donation) will be passed out at Tuesday evening practices later this month (more details to follow).  For donations that did not include a student name - tickets will be mailed by the end of the month.

THE COMMUNITY SUPPORTED US, NOW LET’S SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY!

Our wonderful community showed their love and support for the band last week during Tag Day.  Now it is time for us to pay forward some of the love we were shown to our neighbors in need.  Please support the Mason Band’s service project as we collect donations for the Comet Cupboard/Comet Closet.  Donations will be collected beginning 8/8 through 8/20 during rehearsal.  Top Needs include: Pop top cans of chili, pastas, tuna, chicken; pop tarts, fruit snacks, individual oatmeal packets, granola/cereal bars. Please contact vp-studentexperience@masonbandboosters.com with any questions.

MENTAL HEALTH DAY FOR STUDENTS THIS TUESDAY!

Permission Slip Required

We will be having a fun-filled day of activities while the students learn about the importance of maintaining their mental health and well-being as they begin to balance their academics and the demands of their extracurricular activities, jobs, and life!  We are so excited that our Band Directors support this initiative and realize the importance.  Please thank them next time you see them as we are the only organization with a full day supporting mental health!  Special thanks to the Langbein family as the Jacob Langbein Memorial Fund, established in honor of their son Jake who passed in 2021 and are advocates for mental health awareness, is fully funding this day.

As part of this day of wellness, two organizations will be joining us:  The Miami University Recreation Outdoor Pursuit Center and 1N5.  IMPORTANT:  The Miami University group is requiring all students to have a completed waiver to participate in the event on Tuesday.  They will be doing physically interactive/low risk leadership activities with our students and Miami requires the waiver of every group they work with.

PLEASE COMPLETE THE WAIVER ASAP (CLICK HERE)!  You may complete and scan both sides and email back to Shannon Wielinga at travel@masonbandboosters.com or print and drop off at the Band Aid table on Monday before or during rehearsal.  We will have blank copies there so you can stop by and sign one at drop off or pick up.  THEY MUST HAVE THESE TURNED IN BY 9AM ON TUESDAY MORNING!  Email is preferred.  Parent signature is most important and we only need one parent’s signature.  Please be sure to complete both sides!

FALL MUM SALE STARTING THIS WEEK!

Our annual Mason Band fall Mum sale begins this week! This Sale benefits students in all band classes in Grades 6-12 with music purchases, classroom items, guest clinicians to work with our students, and more! Be on the lookout for online ordering information later this week!

UNIFORM UNDERGARMENTS FOR INSTRUMENTALISTS

This year, the Mason Marching Band will be using two sets of formal uniforms:  Classic Black and Competition White.  You will need to make sure your student has two sets of undergarments:

Black Uniforms - Tight Fitting/Compression style Black top (can be sleeveless or long sleeve) and black compression style shorts or pants.

White Uniforms - VERY IMPORTANT!  MUST BE ALL WHITE WITH ALL WHITE UNDERWEAR AND CONTAIN NO PRINT OR LOGOS!  All undergarments must be tight fitting and PANTS MUST GO ALL OF THE WAY TO THE ANKLE!  We highly recommend a synthetic material vs. cotton as synthetics handle sweat and moisture much better than cotton.  CLICK HERE for more information and links to suggested items to buy.  You do not have to buy these, these are just examples of what you can buy.  You can purchase the undergarments anywhere you wish as long as they meet the requirements.  Any uniform related questions should be directed to Micki Gonzalez at uniforms@masonbandboosters.com.

Socks will be provided by the Uniform committee for both sets of uniforms so you do not need to buy socks!

For information on Color Guard uniform undergarments, please see Erica’s weekly update email for more information on what to purchase for this year’s color guard uniforms.

ULTIMATE DRILL BOOK - Optional

Students might remember using the "Ultimate Drill Book" or UDB app last year. The band program received a grant last year for all students to try this tool. Although we do not have funding this year to purchase this subscription for students again, we are now able to allow students and families who liked having this tool to purchase individually for the season. This is not required, and is totally optional only for families/students that would like to continue using this during the season. The cost is $10 plus tax, that covers the entire season. We will continue to share video files at no cost, for students that would prefer that option.

To Purchase UDB for your student:

  1. Go to this link: CLICK HERE
  2. Add the subscription to your cart
  3. Pay the fee ($10.30)
  4. Download the "UDB" app from the App Store on your phone or Ipad (see UDB website for compatible devices)
  5. Once per week, Mr. Hinson will receive an email from UDB with students that have purchased. Students will then receive an email to their school email with the ensemble code that allows them to join the Mason UDB group.

If you'd like to learn more about UDB before purchasing, see this video from the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps about UDB: CLICK HERE
